Life in a middle-class neighbourhood in present day Recife, Brazil, takes an unexpected turn after the arrival of an independent private security firm. The presence of these men brings a sense of safety and a good deal of anxiety to a culture which runs on fear. Meanwhile, Bia, married and mother of two, must find a way to deal with the constant barking and howling of her neighbour’s dog. A slice of ‘Braziliana’, a reflection on history, violence and noise.

Johnny and Tanner are two brothers raised in a violently dysfunctional family, with a brutal psychopath for a father. One day, their father’s abuse of their mother goes too far and tragedy strikes. Johnny agrees, but then discovers that the hearing isn’t in nearby Hollywood, CA, but on the other side of the country in Hollywood, FL. A promise is a promise, and Johnny and Tanner hop in Tanner’s ancient Lincoln Continental with only 12 dollars to their name, hoping the fates will guide them safely to the East Coast.

Bong-sam abandons his sick wife Sun-im and young son Gwi-dong for a rich widow named Yeon-wol. Sun-im dies and Gwi-dong is raised by Yeon-wol, who severely abuses young Gwi-dong. Sun-im’s soul, which cannot leave this world, stays to protect her son. She asks Yeon-wol to be a good mother to Gwi-dong but Yeon-wol takes no heed, and her abuse continues. Sun-im kills Yeon-wol and asks a wandering monk to take in her son, then leaves for the other world.

Marcus Wright (Daniel Dambroff) is in love with Gabby (Elise McNamara). A devastating accident nearly kills her and renders her in a vegetative state. She can no longer walk or talk. Marcus is determined to make good on his promise to marry her. He is not only challenged by this unfortunate event but is made to jump many unexpected hurdles, including fending off Gabby’s mother Sandra (Aria Mckenna), who clings to Marcus and takes her relationship with him beyond both of their boundaries. Marcus then meets Elliot Thurston (Christopher Clawson), a published author who wrote the novel “Brilliant Mistakes,” a story about the author’s personal regret. Marcus is a big fan of Elliot’s positive energy and subsequently his writing, and a bond of common loss, dreams and goals ties them together. While Elliot brings color and life to Marcus’ seemingly uncertain future, something is wrong and Marcus’trust in others is yet again weakened.
