On the dating tour to Odessa, Ukraine, Ten North American and European men have 10 days to find a partner for the rest of their lives. How: Social gatherings introduce the men to hundreds of skimpy dressed young and beautiful Ukrainian girls, not to mention a bikini contest. Now, the men have to choose the women to go on dates with, overcome the language barrier, cultural differences, age gap and filter out the scammers. Four couples are formed but can they go the distance? Come on this personal journey and discover that not all men are losers, not all women are scammers and the romantic Odessa is dangerously seductive. After the intoxication of the tour is over only one couple will stay together, but it is not the one you would have guessed.

In the 30s, a small village in the Provence is losing its inhabitants because young people prefer to go to the city to find easy jobs and escape from being farmers living in relative poverty. Only a few old people and the poacher Panturle remain. Panturle dreams of bringing the village back to life, finding a wife, founding a family and work as a farmer. One day, the village is visited by a traveling knife-grinder, Urbain Gedemus and a young woman, Arsule. Gedemus treats Arsule like a slave, but Arsule accept this because she has nowhere to go and -we guess- her ‘work’ with Gedemus is the last thing that saves her from being a prostitute. When she meets Panturle and knows about his dreams, she escapes from Gedemus and decides to stay with him. Together, they start a new life, made of hard farming work but mostly of happiness to have each other – fulfilling the earlier dreams of Panturle. Can anything break the happiness of their new life?

One suspects writer-director Carol Lai may have harboured some Black Swan ambitions with a tale that also centers around a stage practitioner who embarks on an unwitting destructive journey when playing a role to die for. The Second Woman, whose Chinese title Romance Riddle may hold better clues as to how this film developed, being more of a guessing game that threw constant clues rather than a overly romantic film about twins falling in love with a man who decided it’s perfectly OK to string both women along, until he discovers that this spells double trouble.
