Food Stamped is an informative and humorous documentary film following a couple as they attempt to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet on a food stamp budget. Nutrition educator Shira Potash teaches nutrition-based cooking classes to elementary school students in low-income neighborhoods, most of whom are eligible for food stamps. In an attempt to walk a mile in their shoes, Shira and her documentary filmmaker husband embark on the food stamp challenge where they eat on roughly one dollar per meal. There is a long night when Hugo, a civil servant, is sitting on the stairs of the Ministry where he works. He can’t face going home. When they come back from the park, Juri sees Ringo-chan’s mother with a grim face. The Bug Man is standing behind her mother.

Yet, he becomes frustrated by those opposed to his marriage with Miki and others who give him pity looks. He also can’t find anything to replace soccer in his life. Kazuya then witnesses a wheelchair basketball game at a gym.
The Plot is actually pretty crafty and full of (surprisingly) unsuspecting twists. The special effects are actually quite realistic which is surprising for such a low budget movie. Bokeeem Woodbine plays his role with a serious emotion that only adds to the hilariousness of the movie. Justin Pierce (R.I.P) is hilarious as a guy who has possibly the worst day of his entire life. The comedy of the movie culminates in the final 10 minutes that have had me and everyone else watching the movie rolling on the floor for hours. This movie is a classic and deserves more respect.
