Reina of the West is a western drama that chronicles the life of a black woman, Reina, who is forced to find a path of survival after her family abandons her. Finding other women with similar fates as her own, abandoned or outcast, Reina starts a ranch under the guise of a man’s name but when a group of men in town get jealous of her ranch’s success they devise a plan to shut down the ranch. Reina and her female ranch hands set out on a path to save their ranch but it also leads Reina down a road that forces her to face parts of her past that she hasn’t truly come to terms with.

The story concerns two grizzled mountain men — Bill Tyler and Henry Frapp — during the dying days of the fur-trapping era. The plot begins when Running Moon runs away from her abusive husband Heavy Eagle and comes across the two seedy fur trappers. The mountain men take her in, unaware that Heavy Eagle has dispatched an army of Indian braves to reclaim her.

In Old California, a young Frenchman transporting a chest full of silver travels by stagecoach to San Marino, to complete a complex business deal. The stagecoach is ambushed by a band of men whose leader, a mysterious bandido known as Cisco (Gilbert Roland), claims the silver is money that was extorted over a period of years from the poor people of California. The bandits take the money and escape, but Cisco stays behind with the Frenchman — who, it turns out, is actually a lovely mademoiselle, Jeanne DuBois (Ramsay Ames). She follows him to the bandit’s lair, where Cisco tells her he intends to return the stolen money to the poor people. The two rivals are irresistibly drawn to each other, however, and as a token of love Cisco offers to return the money to Jeanne instead. Now she must decide whether to complete her business deal, or to comply with Cisco’s wishes and redistribute the wealth.
