Paige throws Emily a surprise birthday party with even more surprising guests – Jenna and Shana. But it’s “A’s” actions at the party that lead to the biggest shock of all. Mona’s selfless act provides Hanna and her mother with their first bit of good news, but sends Mona down a familiar path. And Ezra gets some distressing news from Maggie regarding her and Malcolm. Meanwhile, Aria and Jake continue trying to define their confusing relationship. And Emily meets with a world class coach in a last ditch effort to salvage her swimming career.
Hanna comes up with a desperate plan to save her mother from a conviction and turns to the only person she thinks can help – Mona. Caleb tries to convince her Mona can’t be trusted, causing Mona to prove her loyalty in the most unexpected way. And Spencer returns to an old haunt to investigate new evidence relating to Wilden and his surprising ties to another mysterious death. Meanwhile, “A’s” recent machinations take their toll on Emily and her mom, driving Emily to reconnect with her old boss Zoe to look for an escape. And Aria relies on Jake to help her understand Mike’s new attitude, leaving them both confused about the nature of their relationship.
Caleb and Toby team up to investigate “A” and what really happened the night of the lodge fire and encounter a source that points to a new possible identity for “Red Coat.” Hanna struggles to act like everything is normal and her friends are unsure about how to help her. Aria worries about Mike‘s behavior in light of an incident at school and Ezra struggles with how he now fits into her life. Meanwhile, The Liars are determined to find a new suspect in Wilden’s murder and their tactics have unintended consequences. And, “A’s” new plan threatens to send everything crashing down around one of the Liars.
Hanna has some explaining to do to her parents and the police after she’s found with something she shouldn’t have. Mona spills a secret of Spencer’s to the other Liars – leading to hurt feelings amongst the group. Emily tries to help Hanna, only to have “A” turn the tables. And Aria helps out a friend of Mike’s, who gets the wrong impression of her. Meanwhile, Shana keeps popping up in the most unusual places. And Spencer’s investigation into who was on the other end of Ali’s mysterious phone number leads her and Toby to Ravenswood – which is unlike any place they’ve ever seen.
Spencer and Emily make plans to visit a nearby college, but they have very different agendas for their time spent on campus. Spencer’s singular focus in figuring out Ali’s apparent connection to the school contradicts Emily’s real fears about her plans for after she graduates. And after a stinging attack by “A,” Aria and her brother Mike don’t see eye to eye regarding what’s best for their parents. Meanwhile, Hanna becomes increasingly frantic when she makes another horrifying discovery among her mom’s things, leading her to make a desperate move – with disastrous results.
Holbrook’s partner, Lt. Tanner, comes to town, intensifying their investigation into the Liars and their possible connection to Wilden’s death. Emily panics when her parents come under undue scrutiny due to “A’s” manipulations. Hanna bristles when Caleb tries to help her through her this latest crisis, and tries to shift the focus of the police investigation. And Toby finds a new source of information into his mother’s death, but it only leads to more questions. Meanwhile Aria has an uncomfortable encounter while out with Jake, and Spencer lays a trap for Melissa.
Hanna worries that her mother is keeping a dangerous secret and is determined to protect her at all costs, which leads her to an uncomfortable meeting with Detective Holbrook. A clue in Ali’s things leads the Liars to a creepy mask maker, who takes a shine to Emily and may have ties to another Rosewood resident. Spencer and Toby continue their search into a painful chapter of Toby’s past and Melissa returns to Rosewood. Meanwhile, A targets Emily’s mom, leading Aria to make a desperate plea of Ella.
Mrs. DiLaurentis’ presence in Rosewood continues to unnerve all those around her, especially when she gives Hanna a family parrot, whose gift for mimicry provides startling insight into Alison’s last days. Tired of feeling defenseless against “A,” Aria decides to learn self defense and is intrigued by her sexy instructor. Meanwhile, Toby shares a heartbreaking secret with Spencer, and Hanna makes an alarming discovery regarding her mom. And to complicate matters even further, “A” nearly kills the newest PLL – Mona.
In the season four premiere, the Liars are desperate to uncover what new scheme “A” has in store for them in the wake of the lodge fire, and have no choice but to turn to Mona for answers, now that she is also being targeted. Aria struggles with seeing Ezra in the wake of their breakup, and Emily starts to make plans for life after high school. Meanwhile, “A” sets Toby on a new path, what’s in the trunk is revealed, and a shocking discovery reverberates through Rosewood.
Spencer is back home and presenting a good front, but Aria, Hanna and Emily are not so sure their friend is fully back after seeing how fragile she was just a day or so before. Unfortunately the girls don’t have much time to ponder Spencer’s health as shocking revelations are brought to the forefront. With so much happening and new information being uncovered, will the Liars be ready for what is waiting for them?
As “A” continues to play games, the stakes are raised higher as each girl is forced into difficult positions. Aria starts to seriously contemplate her relationship with Ezra as his new family situation continues to eat away at her. Hanna is thrown into the middle of Caleb’s family drama when Jamie’s shady past comes back to haunt him. Emily is determined to prove Spencer wrong in hopes of helping her, but she might not be ready for what she finds. In the end, will the Liars be able to get out of their sticky situations or will “A” have them right where he/she wants them? Meanwhile, Spencer searches for answers about Mona’s time in Radley Sanitarium.

Meanwhile, Aria has to come to terms with Ezra’s new life with Malcolm.
Shaken up after recent events and holding new information about Det. Wilden, Aria, Emily and Hanna are on the hunt for answers about the detective’s past. Looking to Shana and Cece for more insight, the ladies seem to be making progress in their search. But they quickly start running out of time when they learn that Wilden is close on their heels and determined to stop them. Now with Det. Wilden on the war path, some residents of Rosewood will find out how far he is willing to go to keep his secrets from coming out. Meanwhile, after many pleas from her friends Spencer finally finds someone to lean on.
When dealing with matters of the heart, people react in many different ways: Still crushed over her break-up, Spencer continues her downward spiral as she now takes her anger and hurt out on Mona. Caleb, on the other hand, hides his pain by being closed off when discussing his father. But when Hanna devises a plan to bring father and son back together, will that help Caleb heal old wounds or just make things harder? And Aria, who is still missing Ezra, finds she is spending more time with Wes. Meanwhile, Emily and Jason work together to put together the pieces of Ali’s trip to Cape May and what really happened during that vacation.
Now that Ali’s remains are back with her family, the DiLaurentis’ are set to bury her again, giving Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer another opportunity to say goodbye to their friend. With everything that has gone on since Ali’s disappearance, the girls are divided about going to yet another memorial. Aria, Hanna and Emily are ready for another round of goodbye, if not for them but to also support Jason. Spencer, on the other hand, has had enough and wants nothing to do with the burial. Why keep saying farewell to a girl who wasn’t that great of a friend after all? Meanwhile, Emily goes to visit Dr. Sullivan to help with her unresolved feelings about killing Nate, but comes away with much more than expected.

Aria knows that she should tell Ezra about his son, but she isn’t ready to face the idea of what it might do to her relationship. Aria is down for the count when sidelined by the flu, so Hanna and Emily are on their own to follow up on a new clue. Surprisingly, Meredith steps up to help take care of Aria while her father is away, but when it starts to look like Meredith may have ulterior motives to her nursing Aria back to health, Hanna and Emily turn their attention towards saving their friend. Is Meredith just trying to start anew with Aria and be her number one fan, or is there reason for her friends to be concerned? Meanwhile, Spencer takes a break from all the sleuthing to surprise Toby for their anniversary.

With their former tormentor now back in their everyday life, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer take very different views of the “new” Mona. She made their lives a living hell… Is she really cured? And what other secrets could she be holding onto? It’s up to Mona to prove to the Liars if she has changed or not.

With Garrett’s trial for Maya’s murder starting, the town of Rosewood has become a media spectacle. At odds with her friends over Paige, Emily doesn’t know where to turn when the media attention becomes too much for her. “A” sees this as a perfect opportunity and takes advantage of the situation and sends Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer on a path to a possible truce. But is “A’s’ peace offering real or just a trap for a much darker ending?

Emily’s relationship with Paige has been anything but easy, but she finally feels like their relationship is going in the right direction. So when Spencer comes to her with a sordid tale about Paige’s history with Alison, Emily is not ready to heed her friend’s warnings. With Spencer knowing Paige’s violent past and this new information about a blood feud between Alison and Paige right before Alison disappeared, she can’t stand by to let one of her best friends get close to a potential enemy. But will Spencer cross a line that Emily can’t forgive in her attempt to prove to Emily who Paige really is?
Meanwhile, Aria feels she has to help Ezra move on from his past if their relationship is to move forward, but what she finds may be more than she expected.
After learning that Noel and his family’s cabin had something to do with “that night” and possibly Maya’s disappearance, the girls work to try and put the pieces together. Hanna and Emily head out to the Kahn family cabin looking for clues linking Maya to the site, while Spencer does some snooping of her own on Noel. Could Noel have had a hand in this after all, or are he and Jenna just bluffing to send Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer down the wrong path?
Meanwhile, Aria must deal with the aftermath of meeting Ezra’s mom and the information about Ezra’s past.
Spencer and Aria find themselves at the Kahn brothers’ party in hopes of saving Spencer’s college career. What originally was going to be a quick stop by to ask a favor of CeCe’s friend turns into an opportunity for Aria and Spencer to get some answers from Jenna with a heated game of “Truth.” But will Aria and Spencer be willing to give up some of their “truths” to get the answers they are looking for?
Meanwhile, Hanna gets another text from “A” about Caleb.
Emily is struggling to deal not only with the loss of Maya, but the knowledge that someone drugged her “that night” and how that has now affected Paige. Going to make amends with Paige and try to explain the drugged flask ends up leading Emily to more insight of what she did “that night.” Also trying to help Emily out, Spencer turns to Caleb to help crack into a website that might hold answers for them all.
Meanwhile, Aria realizes she knows very little about Ezra after meeting his mother and Hanna makes a plea on Mona’s behalf.
With new key evidence in Alison’s murder case, Hanna fears that “A” may be framing her after a visit from Det. Wilden. With paranoia setting in, Aria decides that she has to turn to Mona for answers if she is going to help Hanna. But is Aria ready to face her former tormentor, and more to the point, is Mona ready to give Aria the answers the PLLs are desperately looking for? Meanwhile, someone from Ali and Jason’s past arrives in Rosewood and piques the girls’ interest.
After getting a major clue from Garrett, Hanna and Spencer set out on their separate missions. Hanna sees a perfect opportunity to catch “A” or to at least see who is helping Garrett out. But her perfect plan starts to quickly unravel, leaving Hanna frustrated and desperate. Spencer tries to figure out the meaning of the clue and enlists Jason’s help in the search.
Meanwhile, Emily gets another flashback from “that night” which leads her to a surprising suspect and Aria starts to question Ezra’s sudden influx of cash.
Jenna’s extravagant birthday party seems to be too good to be true and Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer think something else might be up – especially when it turns out that Garrett is getting a pass out of jail to visit his ailing mother on the same night. The timing can’t just be a coincidence; the Liars are convinced it all has to do something with “A.” With Emily getting an insiders’ view working the party, Aria working the crowd as a party-goer and Spencer staked out at the hospital, what could go wrong? The answer is – everything.
Meanwhile, Hanna’s wallowing through heartbreak leads her to a shocking discovery.
The truth can sometimes hurt and the Liars must take that into account when deciding to reveal secrets. Hanna’s visits with Mona are driving a wedge between Hanna and Caleb. But would it be so bad if Hanna told Caleb that she needed to see Mona to get information about this “A?” Aria, on the other hand, is dreading telling Ella that Byron is back in the dating scene and dating Meredith. But wouldn’t it be better if Ella found out from Aria than hearing it someplace else? And Spencer needs to know the truth about Melissa, even if the truth hurts.
Meanwhile, Emily finds some solace after meeting Maya’s cousin, Nathan.
With Spencer’s mom now taking Garrett on as a client, Spencer is sure that there is a reason forcing her mother to take on the case. But when she starts questioning, she doesn’t so much learn why her mother took the case as stumble upon a larger Hastings secret. Emily also gets some surprising news about her English exam and fears what those consequences could hold.
Meanwhile, Aria agrees to be Jenna’s accompanist in order to keep tabs on her, and Hanna tries to reach out to Lucas.
A new “A” player is in town and is determined to show the Liars that he/she means business. After getting a gruesome reminder that “A” is still calling the shots, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to quickly devise a plan on how to deal with this old/new threat and the usual game that has been taken up a notch. Spencer and Hanna continue to play with fire as they look for answers, while one of Aria’s past indiscretions becomes fodder for “A’s” game.
Meanwhile, a still very shaky Emily tries to focus on school but could easily be derailed when she remembers a crucial piece from “that night.”
A summer has passed since Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer found out about Mona being ‘A’ and Maya’s death…. Each of the four girls spent their summer in different ways – Aria taking a photography class, Spencer taking college courses at Hollis, Hanna taking cooking classes with Caleb and Emily building houses in Haiti. Now all back together and coming upon the second anniversary of Alison’s disappearance, the girls find themselves back on the defensive when a shocking event rocks Rosewood.

But what would bring Ali to such a creepy and weird location on her hunt for “A?” And what can the four girls learn about the secrets that are stashed away on the shelves between forgotten playmates?
Meanwhile, Jenna’s surgery brings about more than just the possibility of regaining her sight.
Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are on the quest for answers of what Alison knew before she died and they might have just gotten a big lead when someone from Alison’s past appears. Duncan might hold the key to all of the girls’ answers, but can they trust him to let down their guard? And just when they feel like Duncan may be the only lead, Jason drops off a bag of Alison’s personal items that could be more than just a bag of junk.
Meanwhile, Toby’s return to Rosewood brings a surprise reunion that ends dangerously.
One father has a guilty conscience, one has a daughter he doesn’t trust, one is hiding a secret from his daughter and the other father is MIA – all-in-all it is not the ideal time for Rosewood’s annual Father-Daughter Dance. With fathers looking to make amends and daughters trying to keep the peace, the annual dance looks to be anything but fun.
Meanwhile, Ashley continues her hunt to find answers about what is going on with Hanna with help from a surprising source.
Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer have been the target of “A’s” games for awhile, leaving them emotionally cut off from their families and friends. But when a surprising new victim of “A” is revealed, the PLLs tight-knit group may just get one person larger. But what is “A’s” motive of targeting someone outside of Alison’s group of besties?
Meanwhile, Spencer runs from her family troubles right into Wren’s arms, as Ezra’s new opportunity could push him away from Aria.
Caleb’s involvement in cracking “A’s” phone has had Hanna worried from day one and now “A” is determined to punish him for it. With Det. Wilden and Garrett now circling Caleb on bogus hacking charges and in possession of his computer, Hanna and her friends are convinced that this won’t end well. What are the police looking for on Caleb’s computer and better yet, would could “A” have possibly planted on the computer to interest the police this much? Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer may soon get another example of what happens to people they involve in “A’s” game.
Meanwhile, Aria learns what Holden’s been keeping a secret as Byron starts to question the relationship.
Rosewood High’s “Truth-Up Day,” is not just an opportunity for the students of the school to air their grievances and stop bullying, but also a chance for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer to get answers to some burning questions. Spencer looks to find answers on what is going on between Jason and her father when Jason shows up as a chaperone; Aria continues to question Holden on what exactly he is up to during their “date nights,” and Hanna tries to figure out the latest situation with Kate. But will the girls be ready for what they find out when shocking truths are revealed?
Meanwhile, Emily gets help from an unlikely source to get back on the Rosewood swim team.
