Suzie Pickles, a star on the wane, has her whole life upended when her phone is hacked and a photo of her emerges in an extremely compromising position.
It’s 1989 in East Berlin: Suzie is kicked out of school shortly before she graduates from high school and has to defend herself as a worker in the cable factory. However, a randomly taken photo leads her to the fashion world of the GDR. The editor-in-chief Elsa Wilbrodt put her on the cover of Sibylle, the fashion magazine of the GDR. In the Berlin underground scene she made the acquaintance of the gay fashion designer Rudi and the photographer Coyote. Suzie must decide if she’s brave enough to leave the old strands behind forever.
After a quick and passionate courtship, newlyweds Rafer and Suzie soon discover that the other harbors a deadly secret sending them both on a course that will either save their marriage or end their lives. Some couples will love you to death.
The film follows Chinese American Suzie who draws on her family’s cultural traditions to spice up an old-fashioned Christmas baking competition. Suzie, a rising young architect, returns to her small hometown in Maine for Christmas where her Chinese American family runs the local Lobster Bar. Following the loss of her beloved grandmother who was a renowned baker in their community, Suzie is guilted into following in her grandmother’s footsteps bei entering the local gingerbread house competition. Teaming up with an old high school friend Billy, who grew up to be catch, Suzie must find the right recipes and mix of sugar and spice to win the competition and perhaps find some love in the process.
Plot
Ancient literature has referred to the sound of hell as “the wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Many people believe that may be the explanation behind a paranormal phenomenon that has been heard around the world. Camille Williams (Suziey Block) believes this haunting sound is responsible for the disappearance of her parents when she was a young girl.
