Isolated from the outside world, fifteen-year-old Lara lives in seclusion on a vast country estate with her father and strict governess Miss Fontaine. Late one evening, a mysterious carriage crash brings a young girl into their home to recuperate. Lara immediately becomes enchanted by this strange visitor who arouses her curiosity and awakens her burgeoning desires.

The movie begins thirty years in the past, where we see a young virgin being sacrificed at the hands of a witch named Tanith (played by Brigitte Eyes). We discover that the witches who run this salon (another female played by Elina Bellbrook and a male witch) must make this sacrifice every thirty years, but they must find a virgin who was born on a certain date at a certain time The movie jumps ahead 30 years, putting us in modern times – in which, as I’m sure you’re aware, a virgin is very hard to find But one day stunning blonde Janet Fontaine (played by Elizabeth Grace) comes waltzing into the salon, and the witches finally have their prime candidate. Fortunately for Janet, she has a boyfriend (and a frustrated one, given the fact that Janet’s a virgin!) who is looking out for her better interests. The question is: will he be able to unravel the mysteries of the salon before the witches seduce Janet into becoming their next victim?

Wealthy, sheltered Lina McLaidlaw is swept off her feet by charming ne’er-do-well Johnnie Aysgarth. Though warned that Johnnie is little more than a fortune hunter, Lina marries him anyway. She remains loyal to her irresponsible husband as he plows his way from one disreputable business scheme to another. Gradually Lina comes to the conclusion that Johnnie intends to kill her in order to collect her inheritance. The suspicion seems confirmed when Johnnie’s business partner dies under mysterious circumstances. Joan Fontaine won a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance.

The film follows the life of famous 1970s runner Steve Prefontaine from his youth days in Oregon to the University of Oregon where he worked with the legendary coach Bill Bowerman, later to Olympics in Munich and his early death at 24 in a car crash.
