In 1925, Gabriela, a poor, uneducated, yet charming woman becomes cook, mistress, and then wife of Nacib, a bar owner in Ilhéus, a small Brazilian coastal town run by the local colonels.

Musician Gabriel and dimpled dry-cleaning proprietress Gabriela live like two strangers who no longer see each other. But in humorous contrast to their staid, passionless lives, characters in a constant state of sexual arousal surround them. Their libidinous teen son, whose hilarious voiceover commentary intermittently provides important narrative information, prides himself on being the high school stud and aspires to a career in porn. Gabriela’s sexy employee switches boyfriends the way she changes clothes. And despite being married, Gabriel’s colleague is working his way through the female members of their orchestra. Ultimately, the two Gabys find their virtual affairs reconnect them with their own desires, but in a way less movie-fantasy and more satisfyingly real-life. Henrique can’t get over his breakup from Gabriela and, even a year later, he’s so devastated that he can’t get excited about anything or anyone else. To put an end to his suffering, he decides to take his own life, but as he doesn’t have the courage, he hires a company of hitmen who have just one rule: Once signed and paid for, there is no turning back. However, after signing the contract, Henrique and Gabriela cross paths by chance and she discovers that she wants to get back together. Tasha Brooks is a journalism student at a new college trying to land a spot on the student paper, but the editor, Clancy, tells her she needs a big story to break through. When Tasha hears about a student who died while pledging the Tau Theta Nu sorority, she decides to write an exposé on the hazing. Tasha goes undercover and pledges Tau Theta Nu, where sorority president Gabriela explains that in order to make the cut, pledges must complete a series of dares received via an app. It sounds easy, but things turn deadly when an anonymous user begins sending Tasha increasingly dangerous dares, as if they are trying to hurt her. As Tasha fights for her life, and digs into Tau Theta Nu’s past, she realizes that there is a larger conspiracy afoot, and that everyone at this college hides dark secrets.

Al Stanco has lived all of his life in Brooklyn and does some work for the local crime lord, Danny Parente. New to the neighbourhood is Gabriela, a filmmaker shooting a documentary on the real Brooklyn. Al and Gabriela become friendly but the relationship is strained when he discovers her true goal is to expose Parente’s criminal activities. When Al sees the evidence Gabriela has uncovered, which implicates Parente in the death of many locals (including Al’s own father), he seeks revenge in a dangerous confrontation with his boss.
