As stated in the opening titles and at the end Freakstars 3000 is supposed to be a commentary on the problems of the non-disabled people. The more I was shocked about how the disabled were depicted in this film the more I started to realize that in every non-disabled TV counterpart of this show (German TV shows like “Popstars” or “Friedmann” or the home shopping channels) its mentally “non-handicapped” participants are treated in a completely identical way: The total prostitution of the mind in front a huge TV audience at the expense of one’s most important gifts one should hang on to: dignity. On the other hand one could completely understand people who are furious about “exploiting” these handicapped persons. But that’s what Schlingensief’s works are all about: shock people and don’t care about those who cannot or will not try to get the message (if there is one).
PSYCHO SIDESHOW: DEMON FREAKS takes you deep into a three-ring circus of shock, blasting out a caustic cauldron of clips from such classic Full Moon favorites as LURKING FEAR, DARK ANGEL, SEED PEOPLE, SHRIEKER, THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING and – of course – CASTLE FREAK and frames them with an all new animated narrative. This time, “The Gore Collector” winds his way into a terrifying amusement park from Hell known as the “Karnage Kingdom”. And while the crazed carnival coats our characters in bloody horror, our tour guide “Molly” seems to have a method to the madness. What lies beyond this nightmarish wonderland? Tune in to find out!

You’ll be shocked, amazed, and maybe just a little bit creeped out by the things you can find in your newspaper’s classified ads in this vintage sexploitation “mockumentary” from Joel M. Reed. Georgina Spelvin serves as host and guide to this exploration of the sexual netherworld, which can be accessed through discreet ads placed in “underground” newspapers and on public bulletin boards. We meet voyeurs looking for good peeping spots, homosexuals on the cruise for new partners, masked swingers clubs, nudie photographers trolling for naïve new models, a man who makes a good living providing S & M enthusiasts with leather gear, adult film societies screening stag movies for heavy-breathing fans, and “Lonely Hearts Clubs” preying on unsuspecting bachelors looking for relationships with teenage girls. Director Joel M. Reed (who would later make the bizarre horror-comedy Bloodsucking Freaks) and actress Jennifer Welles (a major star in 1970s adult films) can be spotted in cameo roles.

Harris Glenn Milstead, aka Divine (1945-1988) was the ultimate outsider turned underground hero. Spitting in the face of the status quos of body image, gender identity, sexuality, and preconceived notions of beauty, Divine succeeded in becoming an internationally recognized icon, recording artist, and character actor of stage and screen. Glenn went from the often-mocked, schoolyard fat kid to underdog royalty, standing up for millions of gay men and women, drag queens and punk rockers, and countless other socially ostracized misfits and freaks. With a completely committed in-your-face style, he blurred the line between performer and personality, and revolutionized pop culture.
