Faruk, who is over 90 years old, increasingly becomes the protagonist in the film his daughter is making about the impending demolition of his block of flats in Istanbul. A story about gentrification and a complex father-daughter relationship.
Retired taxi driver Faruk is still working into his 60s. Having lost his wife ten years earlier, he leads a monotonous life. His only wish is to learn English, for which he is sometimes ridiculed and sometimes appreciated. His life will change a lot as he meets people throughout that difficult process, as learning a new language brings new experiences.
What could be a beautiful fairy tale for some – boy meets girl – could also be the beginning of a horror film for Faruk. The young man is crushed between the dark world of his criminal cousins in Sarajevo and the discovery of love. The film powerfully visualises and contrasts a harshness and tenderness experienced and dreamed.
