When you need butterflies for your wedding or birthday, there’s only one woman to call: Emily Mariposa. It’s what her business ‘Feeling Butterflies Inc.’ is all about – and right now, business is good! In fact it’s so good, Emily and her business partner Adam are struggling to keep up with demand.

It takes two or three generations for the monarch butterfly to reach the Canadian breeding grounds, but it is one “supergeneration” that makes the 2,000 mile return trip back south into central Mexico. The documentary film covers Dr Fred Urquhart’s interest in monarch butterflies, with perspectives of Urquhart as a child wondering where the butterflies went, his years of research and study into their life and migration, to his time decades-later as a senior scientist looking back at his investigations and discoveries about the insect’s life pattern.

Tragedy strikes and Mary Jane’s world is disturbingly turned upside down. Fleeing the troubled “real world” she embarks upon a solitary bush project. In the isolated and surreal landscape Mary Jane starts experiencing strange phenomena. The opportunity to be a mother again presents itself, only it comes at a cost for Mary Jane and what’s left of her family.

Freddie is an inept bank clerk with no future. His only hobby is collecting butterflies, which gives him a feeling of power and control that is otherwise totally missing from his life. He comes into a large sum of money, and buys himself a country house. Still unable to make himself at ease socially, he starts to plan on acquiring a girl friend – in the same manner as he collects butterflies. He prepares the cellar of the house to be a collecting jar, and stalks his victim over several days.
