During the summer vacations, the three friends are about to take a trip together to Romania, where they are allowed to complete an internship on the film set of “Dracula Rises”, arranged for them by Peter’s father, who is responsible for the special effects during the filming. No sooner do they arrive in Transylvania than mysterious events begin to pile up at Countess Codrina’s old castle, which serves as the original setting for the film. The three detectives want to find out what all this may have to do with a boy who has been missing for over 50 years, a mysterious brotherhood and an enigmatic undead. Soon, not only the filming and Peter’s relationship with his father are at stake, but also the friendship of the three investigators.

Initially, “Mulholland Dr.” was to mark David Lynch’s return to television. It is a retooling of a script originally shot as a 94-minute pilot for a TV series (co-written with TV screenwriter Joyce Eliason) for the channel ABC, which had approved the script, but chose not even to air the pilot once it was done in 1999, despite Lynch’s labours to cut the project to their liking. It was left in limbo until 18 month later French company Studio Canal Plus (also producer of ‘The Straight Story’) agreed to pay ABC $7 million for the pilot, and budget a few million more to turn the pilot into a two-hour, 27-minute movie. The cost of the film doubled to $14 million as sets had to be reconstructed and actors recalled.

As the boat calmly sets sail, everyone is enjoying getting into character, especially Alvirah, who may or may not be the games “murderess.” But troubled waters lie ahead when Alvirah gets a hunch that a real killer may be on board and, together with Regan, the pair teams up to solve the high seas whodunnit.
